Last Friday, after some violent thunderstorms, I visited my local marshland park, where the staff alerted me that three beavers were sleeping on a patch of dry land near their lodge, which apparently had flooded. The three North American Beavers (Castor canadensis) were all snuggled together and reminded me a little of puppies. I am working up some more images, but thought that I would give a sneak preview of coming attractions.

That is so cute.
Thanks. I loved the texture of the fur and I think that we can all relate to the secure feeling of snuggling close to another.
That’s great. I’ve seen a few sleeping animals but never a beaver. Helpful staff!
Unlike some of my more serious fellow photographers, I like to talk to people at the marsh and it has paid off more than once. Even loud kids, who sometimes descend on the marsh in large gaggles as part of a field trip, can sometimes be useful in spotting wildlife that I might otherwise have missed.

Wow – wonderful capture!
Awwwwwwww great shot..:-)
Seeing something like this is very rare. Thanks Mike!
WOW what a beautiful capture.. he looks so peaceful..all snuggled up there.
Thanks. The texture of the fur reminds me of the old-fashioned teddy bears with moveable joints. The beaver sure does look comfortable. I guess that they are used to sleeping close together–there can’t be that much room inside their lodge.
To be able to photography animals in their natural habitat is breathtaking..
Looking forward to more photos! Beavers are a favorite of mine.
More are coming soon. I love observing beavers too, on the rare occasions when I see them.
What a great shot! I’ve seen beavers swimming in ponds, streams & rivers but never sleeping.
It really was a matter of luck that I happened to be there the day when they were sleeping outside of their lodge, but I sure am not complaining.
